28/10/2015 - 04/10/2015
This week I was invited into my local primary school to complete my DBS application, have a look around and meet the teacher/class I will be spending voluntary time with over the next year. The school itself features 7 classes, one of each year group and I have been placed in a year 1 class.
This experience will be vital to my application for teacher training, and this week I attended the UEA PGCE open day which I was really excited by. The course options available seem like they would suit me more than the SNITT course, as the university have more impact on your training and will ensure that as a student, I would gain invaluable teaching skills for all subjects across the curriculum.

My next step is the application process, which opens on 1st November 2015. I will be organising a meeting with the careers advisor again to assist with my application, and I will also be spending some time practising for the Professional Skills Tests which I am required to pass before I can be accepted onto any Teacher Training course.
Weekly Schedule for this week....
Research Report
This week I have been considering refining the title of my Research Report:
"No needlework, artificial flowers,
cut paper, shell work, or any such baubles"
An extended essay exploring the place
of analog paper craft in the world of Fine Art.

I have taken out a book on Collage to inform my creative practice, and there are lots of essays in the back which I have been reading through, which discuss the history of collages and I am hoping to use these to inform both my research report and my creative practice.
Creative Practice
The image below is a scanned analog collage I have created this week. I have been looking at John Stezaker a lot and it is evident in this piece that I have taken a lot of influence from his work. I have been reading through and annotating certain pages from books and the internet, and there are a few specific words and quotes which have opened up different pathways for me to explore through this project...

"releasing the image from both its context and its accompanying meaning"
Encountering. Identifying. Re-enchanting.
"rendering it entirely alien to its original purpose of production"

Within this collage, I have taken a vintage sewing pattern for a children's jumper and cut out sections to form a silhouette of an older female figure. The process of cutting and pasting, as well as the contextual subjects I am exploring have encouraged me to draft my statement of intent. At this stage of this project, there is one particular word that I believe could sum it up, "Nurture". My statement of intent will come from this title.
